Welcome to my webpage. My name is John Grogan. I am a 79-year-old retired IT technician with a lifelong interest in astronomy and the forces shaping the formation of our universe. Currently, I am obsessed with finding meteorites. Well, actually I love finding meteorites, but the real challenge is in improved methods to find them.
In planning my retirement I invested in a quality metal detector with the intent of exploring old house sites looking for artifacts, and buried treasure. Within the first month I found a large piece of magnetite. Thinking it was a meteorite I was hooked, and amazed at how easy finding meteorites really was. Little did I know how wrong I was, nor of the adventures my retirement would bring
I have spent many hours over the years experimenting with conventional metal detectors as well as several different types of what would be considered dowsing techniques, I want to share what I have learned.
I am not motivated by money, nor wealth, so I haven't spent much time hunting known meteorite falls. My daughter and her family live in Scottsdale, Arizona so while there I do go into the Superstitious Mountains and poke around looking for the Lost Dutchman's Mine. Probably, more from being in the mountains, and exploring new country than in finding wealth. If I were to find the mine I would probably buy a new truck every year which would be the only change in my lifestyle.
Living in Roswell, NM I have had a lot of exposure to the purported Roswell UFO incident. I will discuss the Jim Ragsdale story later in regard to the entire incident being a meteorite fall.

A great meteorite hunter, but not so good as a meteorite finder.
